چکیده

Despite a number of similarities, vehicle routing problems and scheduling problems are typically solved with different techniques. In this paper, we undertake a systematic study of problem characteristics that differ between vehicle routing and scheduling problems in order to identify those that are important for the performance of typical vehicle routing and scheduling techniques. In particular, we find that the addition of temporal constraints among visits or the addition of tight vehicle specialization constraints significantly improves the performance of scheduling techniques relative to vehicle

An integrated approach for scheduling flexible job-shop using teaching–learning-based optimization method

In this paper, teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) is proposed to solve flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) based on the integrated approach with an objective to minimize makespan. An FJSP is an extension of basic job-shop scheduling problem. There are two sub problems in FJSP. They are routing problem and sequencing problem. If both the sub problems are solved simultaneously, t...

A new approach in graph- based integrated production and distribution scheduling for perishable products

This study is concerned with how the quality of perishable products can be improved by shortening the time interval between production and distribution. As special types of food such as dairy products decay fast, the integration of production and distribution scheduling (IPDS) is investigated. An integrated scheduling of both processes improves the performance and costs because the separated sc...

Using Constraint Programming and Local Search Methods to Solve Vehicle Routing Problems

We use a local search method we term Large Neighbourhood Search (LNS) for solving vehicle routing problems. LNS meshes well with constraint programming technology and is analogous to the shuffling technique of job-shop scheduling. The technique explores a large neighbourhood of the current solution by selecting a number of customer visits to remove from the routing plan, and re-inserting these ...

On the Reformulation of Vehicle Routing Problems and Scheduling Problems

We can reformulate a vehicle routing problem (VRP) as an open shop scheduling problem (SSP) by representing visits as activities, vehicles as resources on the factory floor, and travel as set up costs between activities. In this paper we present two reformulations: from VRP to open shop, and the inverse, from SSP to VRP. Not surprisingly, VRP technology performs poorly on reformulated SSP’s, as...

Comparison of Three Evolutionary Algorithms: GA, PSO, and DE

This paper focuses on three very similar evolutionary algorithms: genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and differential evolution (DE). While GA is more suitable for discrete optimization, PSO and DE are more natural for continuous optimization. The paper first gives a brief introduction to the three EA techniques to highlight the common computational procedures. The gener...
